The Secrets of Color
With Kay Byfield, MFA, SWS
This class is offered in conjunction with the SWS Membership Meeting on January 14th where Kay Byfield will talk about the secrets of color. In this One-Day Class she will be providing practical exercises to cement painter’s understanding of that element of design. Kay will review the ways that using complementary pairs, controlling color temperature, juxtaposing color intensities, and creating value contrasts can be used strategically to maximize the impact of a painting of any subject.
During this short course on color, participants will experiment with effective ways to create color contrasts and harmonies to help highlight the key parts of a composition and to minimize the less important areas. This class will help students to make color choices that attract attention, accentuate mood, support the meaning of the artwork, and direct the eye around the composition. At the end of the day, each student will be given the opportunity to get feedback about color in regard to one of their own paintings.
This one-day class is designed for watercolorists at all levels from beginner to experienced painters who want to improve their color choices as they paint. It is not necessary to have attended the Membership Meeting, but this class will reinforce the information given there.
You will need to download the files below. Two are in several pieces that will need to be matched to be complete wheels. Then trace them on 100% cotton Watercolor Paper before the class.
